Summer is the perfect time to play with highlighter. Whether you’re headed to a festival, poolside bbq, graduation party, or just cocktail night with the girls, highlighter is a fun and versatile way to show off your skin because it uses reflective light to disguise dull skin while helping you glow!
Using our 3 liquid highlighters in pearl, pink, and purple, you can curate the perfect look for any occasion, from everyday to a special night out. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Moisturizer (We love Gel Yes!™ Gel to Water Face Moisturizer and Moisturize 911™)
- Pinking Out Loud™ Pink Liquid Highlighter
- Maiden Voyage™ Purple Liquid Highlighter
- Working Pearl™ Pearl Liquid Highlighter
- Setting Spray (Try All Set™ Coconut Makeup Setting Spray to help lock your look while hydrating with coconut water)
NOW LET'S GET LIT!
Put some moisturizer on your hand (foundation works too if you want more coverage), add a drop of Pinking Out Loud, and mix with your fingertips. Then apply to face, neck, chest, collarbone—anywhere you want a little warm, sun-kissed sheen. Want more glow? We thought so! Moving on...
Sparingly apply a few drops of Working Pearl to the high points of your face where light naturally hits, like cheekbones, your forehead between your brows, your cupid’s bow, and the inner corners of your eyes. Blend well using fingertips or a damp makeup sponge (these highlighters dry quickly).
Pro tip: If you’re using any concealer or bronzer, do it before applying Working Pearl.
Get ready to go purple! It’s the hottest highlighter hue right now and easier to wear than you think. First, check your jewelry box…we’re about to determine if your skin has warm undertones or cool. There are lots of ways to do this, but the easiest is by looking at your bangles. If you rock mostly silver jewelry, you probably have cool undertones. See a lot of gold and rose gold? You’re warm.
Cool Tones: Cool compliments cool (and helps neutralize any sallow, yellow tones) making purple the highlighter of your dreams! Blend Maiden Voyage over the tops of your cheekbones and up toward your hairline.
Warm Tones: The trick to pulling off purple for your skin tone is by warming it up a notch. Apply a few drops of Pinking Out Loud to the tops of your cheekbones and up toward your hairline, then top with Maiden Voyage and blend for a hue customized just for you.
Pro tip: You can also use pink and purple highlighters to show off your neck, chest, and shoulders in a flirty summer top or off-the-shoulder sundress.
Lock your look with setting spray. Just hold 6 inches from your face and mist. We recommend using All Set because coconut water helps keep skin super hydrated in warm weather, and hydrated skin is happy skin! Coconut water will keep your lustrous look from flaking if you have dry skin, and balance excess shine if you have oily skin so you look glowing not greasy.
Forget everything you just learned! Highlighters are all about having fun. While you can use this guide as a go-to tool, be your own mixologist and experiment to find your own style. If you go a little overboard, you can always tone it down with a dab of foundation or powder.
